Acerca de Fall Feasts The LORD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him. -Exodus 15:2 Index of the Fall Feasts 10th of Aviv (Selection Day) Passover (Pesach) Unleavened Bread (The First Day) The Second Day Feast of First Fruits (The Third Day) Psalm 115 (The Hallel) Psalm 116 & 117 (The Hallel) Psalm 118 (The Hallel) Unleavened Bread (The Seventh Day) Pentecost (Shavout) (The Fiftieth Day) 10th of Aviv - Selection Day & the Triumphal Entry Faith Without Obedience Reprinted from The Obedience of Faith Blog - Copyright © 2013 Wendy Bowen – ALL RIGHTS RESERVED WORLDWIDE Announce to the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each family must choose a lamb or a young goat for a sacrifice, one animal for each household. -Exodus 12:3 Today is the 10th day of Nisan, the day on which the Passover Lamb was to be set apart from the flock in order to be offered as an unblemished sacrifice to the Lord. Special care was to be taken of this lamb until the 14th of the month, the Passover, when the lamb would be slaughtered at twilight. On the original Passover, the blood of the lamb was smeared on the doorposts of every Hebrew home to distinguish them from the Egyptians and to protect them from the destroyer. The whole community of Israel professed their allegiance to God, but it would be this purposeful and individual act of obedience to God’s instructions which would set true believers apart to be delivered from bondage and spared from death. And when they were delivered, they would truly be God’s people, and God would be their God. On this exact day in history, Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey in the Triumphal Entry*, presenting Himself as the unblemished eternal Passover Lamb of God. In the days that followed, He taught in the Temple, challenging and infuriating the religious leaders of His day with questions that they could not answer, until the 14th of the month when He would be betrayed and handed over to be killed. On this day as He entered the gates of Jerusalem, the people shouted for joy, declaring the fulfillment of the Psalms and the words of the Prophets Isaiah and Zechariah, affirming their faith in Jesus as the Son of David, the Son of God, their Messiah, and the King of Israel. Their words declared their faith that Jesus would deliver them from their oppression and that they would be called “The Holy People” and “The People Redeemed by the Lord.” As Jesus rode into Jerusalem, He wept. He knew that, despite their professions of faith, in only a few days the people would all abandon and reject Him. He, too, remembered the words of the Prophet Isaiah, who said, “These people say they are mine. They honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. And their worship of me is nothing but man-made rules learned by rote.” Although the people professed their faith with their lips, it turned out that it was all talk and no action. They had abandoned true faith in God’s Word and trusted instead in their own traditions, rules, and regulations. These same people, only a few days later, would be the ones who stood in agreement with His crucifixion. He did not weep over His coming suffering and death, for this was His God-given purpose on earth. He wept over the hypocrisy of their proclamations of faith. During His ministry on earth, Jesus taught about the difference between those who would profess faith and those who would put their faith into action through obedience to His teachings. He taught that everyone who hears His words and puts them into practice will be blessed. To them, He will be Savior and Messiah, their Prince of Peace, their Teacher, Counselor, and even their friend. But, anyone who professes their faith but does not put His teachings into practice, or places more faith in the tradition or philosophy of man, will be unstable in all their ways and cut off from God. These hypocrites, whose deeds do not match their words, will meet Jesus one day, and He will weep and say to them, “I never knew you.” God still weeps over hypocrisy. What was true about genuine faith back then is still true for us today. If we genuinely believe the things that we say in faith, then we will put them into practice. Our purposeful acts of obedience are the distinguishing mark of what we truly believe. It is these acts of obedience, our putting into practice the teachings of our Lord Jesus which mark us for redemption, deliverance, and salvation and which smear the blood of the eternal Passover Lamb on the doorposts of our hearts. Put another way, faith without works is dead. We are saved by grace through faith, but our actions of obedience prove our faith to be genuine. If the Hebrews had not marked their doorposts in the original Passover, they should not have expected to be delivered from Egypt or spared from the destroyer. In the same way if we do not demonstrate our faith through our acts of obedience, then we should not expect to be delivered from our oppressors or spared from death by the blood of our Passover Lamb, Jesus. Talk is cheap. Obedience is costly. If you truly believe that Jesus is your Savior, then you will walk in the obedience of faith. Today, with renewed commitment, willingness, and passion, declare again your faith in Jesus as your Savior and King, and your eternal Passover Lamb. Smear your heart with the blood of Jesus by putting into practice the things that He teaches. Then, you will be free from oppression, and you will be marked for salvation and redemption. God will be your God, and you will be His child. Acerca de Calendar Feast Draft The Full Story Why Observe the Biblical Calendar? Yeshua is coming back. Yeshua is Jewish. When He returns, it will be according to the Biblical calendar, not according to the calendar of this world or any man-made dates of religious observances for significant events or holidays. God is not a God of coincidence but of precision. God's appointed times are everlasting ordinances for all generations. He established His calendar and reveals Himself to us through it. Changing the times is a deliberate scheme of those opposed to God. (Consider Daniel 7:25.) Moreover, Yeshua rebuked those who did not have discernment of their times. (See Luke 12:54-56.) Therefore, we seek to stay in step with God and His times through Biblical understanding. Not Law. Not Tradition. Under the New Covenant, we are not subject to the legal requirements for observing the Feasts of the Lord or the Biblical months because the requirements of the Law were fulfilled for us in Messiah. As such, followers of Messiah today can observe these Feasts or not however the Lord leads them. (See Galatians 4:10; Colossians 2:16.) Unfortunately through the centuries, the dates and customs of Christian holidays have badly strayed and been cut off from their Biblical foundation. At the same time, the Jewish traditions and calendar have also gone amiss in their Biblical accuracy. Therefore, instead of legalism or tradition, we look to the Word of God for what He reveals through Scripture about His appointed times and their Biblical meaning and significance. Biblical Feasts are a shadow of Messiah. Yeshua observed the Feasts of the Lord out of His own perfect obedience to the Law of God. He also looked forward to the ultimate fulfillment of the Feasts through His life, death, resurrection, and return to usher in the age to come. Each of the Biblical Feasts reveal certain aspects of who Yeshua is, what He accomplished for us, and what will come to pass upon His return. They were originally designed by God to keep Israel focused on Him, to help them remember all He has done for them, and to train them in true and proper worship. They can do the same for us if we take note of them in our lives today. In fact, Messiah instructed His disciples to always be alert and discerning of the times. Walking with God through His calendar each year is one way of doing this. Significant Dates 2021/2022 God has a calendar. He put the sun, moon, and stars in place to mark His appointed times for the seasons, days and years. The very first words of the Bible are, “In the beginning,” meaning the beginning of time as we know it. God knows the end from the beginning and His calendar marks time according to His eternal plan. This Devotional records and reports the events which took place the Bible in each month of the year. Coinciding events of history are not a coincidence. The calendar we use in the world today is known as the “Gregorian Calendar,” named after Pope Gregory XIII in the 1500’s. The roots of Gregory’s calendar are from ancient Rome, who adopted theirs from Greece, who mimicked the ancient Egyptian solar calendar in worship of the Sun god, Ra. Since the calendar was created out of worship to the god of the sun, the calendar aligns with the rotation of the earth around the sun, making a 365-day year. Moreover, the days of the week and months of this calendar are named after pagan gods. Leap years every four years add one day to keep the same day happening at mostly the same time every solar year. In contrast, God’s calendar is lunar calendar which means that the days begin and end in the evening when the sun goes down and the months are observed in tandem with the cycle of the new moon. The days of the week are numbered, except for the Sabbath which is the seventh day and God’s day of rest. The months were mostly numbered until the days of Israel’s exile and were named by Ezra the scribe after their return. Moreover, instead of thinking of each year as its own one-year increment, the Biblical calendar is more like a 19-year cycle with leap years in in year 0, 3, 6, 8, 11, 14, and 17. Instead of a straight line, picture it like a helix rotating through cycles of history and resetting every 19 years. Significantly, God’s calendar for His people started with redemption. In no uncertain terms, He told them that this was the beginning of the year for them. Within two weeks from the first of the year, God’s people were delivered from 400 years of slavery. They miraculously walked through the parted waters of the Red Sea and were birthed as a nation. Every year, Passover is celebrated to remember this marvelous event. It is not a coincidence that Jesus Christ was crucified on the exact anniversary of the day of Passover over 1,000 years later. Through the coinciding time on the calendar, God was revealing a message of His redemption through Jesus Christ, His Son. He is our eternal Passover Lamb who delivers us from bondage to sin and death. There are many additional examples of this throughout the year which this devotional addresses. In the Scriptures, God commands His people to observe the months/new moons and His appointed times. (Numbers 10:10, 28:11; Leviticus 23.) These are not referred to as the feasts of Israel, but the Feasts of the Lord. Even though through faith in Jesus Christ we are no longer under the Law, if God considers a time to be special, holy, or appointed, I believe it is wise for us to take note of it and be in step with Him. Note: I am not suggesting that we abandon the Gregorian calendar because that is simply impractical for living in this world. I am also not promoting the Rabbinic myths associated with the Hebrew months because unfortunately, these myths do not accurately represent the historical events of Scripture. My aim is simply to show reverence to the only God who created the Universe and who is the author of time.
